I think little Sophie here is going to be a great little running partner in about 6 months or so. She's definitely not short on energy or enthusiasm, and she's already walking pretty well on a leash. I'm not in a hurry for this puppy cuteness to wear off though...
Makes me wish I had one.

ReplyDeleteShe's a beauty! One thing to keep in mind (which I didn't learn until I'd already taken my Lab mix puppy running) is that large dogs shouldn't go for long, sustained runs until they're older -- something about joints and bones and, I don't know, hurting them and stuff.
ReplyDeleteI'm not a vet, just a runner who's pup came down with a limp and that's what my vet told me. Around a year, they're good to go. So, you might want to just check with your vet on Sophie before taking her for multi-mile runs.
Yeah, I was definitely planning on easing her into it at around a year. In 6 months she'll be 9 months old and I figure we can start then with some easy jogs but nothing too long.
